I recently staffed an interview and after the introductions and formalities, the usual biz card exchange took place. I found this conversational snippet to be quite revealing:
Reporter: “Here’s my card. It says Singapore and New York but I actually live in Burlingame – most of the time.”
Exec: “Well, here’s my card. It says Bangalore but I am mostly in Mumbai or Santa Clara.”
Me: “Oh, yeah? Well, here’s MY card. It says San Francisco but I actually live in Denver.”
Reporter: “Everyone’s card these days is a lie.”
These are mobile times. Ultimately, it matters little what your card says, as long as you are present and accounted for when they take roll.
