Facebook deepens the digital divide?

Hallelujah social networking fanatics…the Pope is now on Facebook. Well, I’m not sure that he is, but the famed social networking site (as well as MySpace) were mentioned in the Holy one’s annual message for the World Day of Communications. The Pope thinks that social networking sites are a “gift” to feed our desires to communicate, however, he’s concerned that they may deepen the digital divide and further marginalize those that are already excluded. What do you think?

  1. Welcome to the blog, HMack! :)

Nice photo :) Love the post. Look forward to your future inputs!

  2. Okay, the photo is hilarious. I think the Pope is right (wow, never thought I’d say that) that social media could very well be a gift for his message but will also leave behind those that don’t have the means to get online in the first place.

There are now 1 billion people online but that is only 1/6 of the world. The next billion is going to be tougher to pull off.
