At WWDC, Apple just announced the newest iPhone — the iPhone 3GS. “S” stands for Speed. iPhone 3GS will have video, better camera quality. Built-in video editing. Voice control, compass, Copy and Paste!

There will be no change to the hardware. The 16GB will run $199 with the 32GB at $299. iPhone 3G will be $99, so used ones will probably be selling for around $50. This lowers the barrier to entry for new iPhone users a lot.

The iPhone 3GS will be available starting June 19, 2009. I’m guessing lines will begin forming…NOW.

  1. excited to hear about most of these features, most of which should’ve been available when the device launched IMO! thanks for summarizing, sharon. :)

  2. Agree – great summary, Sharon. Methinks I’d be happy with a used 3G. Call me old fashioned but I don’t really need to do my video editing on-the-go.

  3. Not to rain on the iPhone parade, but it’s kind of ironic how faster speeds and fancier features are a moot point for all of the folks who still can’t get an AT&T signal. But you’re right on, Sharon: that won’t stop the massive lines from forming.

A switch to a reliable carrier is the feature I’m most excited about. Fingers crossed.
